Larson Celebrates Democratic Victories Across Connecticut: "The Voices of the People Are Being Heard"

HARTFORD, CT – Congressman John B. Larson (D-CT-01) released the following statement celebrating Democratic victories across Connecticut in yesterday’s municipal elections.

“The people of Connecticut made their voices heard loud and clear. They voted for leaders who will fight to lower the cost of living, from our children’s nutrition to affordable health care, safer streets, stronger schools, and a real social safety net for families in need. These values define who we are as Democrats. I’m proud to congratulate every candidate who stepped forward to serve their communities and look forward to working with them to build a stronger Connecticut.”

Larson praised Democratic candidates up and down the ballot, noting that victories in towns and cities across the state reflect a growing demand for leaders who put people first.

“Voters rejected fear, division, corruption, and chaos. They chose progress. They chose compassion. They chose leaders who will show up every day to fight for working families. From local boards to mayoral races, Democrats delivered because Democrats listened.”

The Congressman emphasized that the issues that animated this election - nutrition benefits for our kids, access to affordable healthcare, public safety, economic fairness, and support for working people - remain at the center of his work in Washington.

“Connecticut families are hurting. They’re tired of rising costs, tired of the broken system that has failed them, and tired of being ignored. Our communities want solutions, not excuses. That’s why I will continue fighting every day to make life more affordable, protect Social Security and Medicare, lower prescription drug prices, and make sure every family has the chance  to thrive.”

Larson also underscored the significance of these victories in the broader national context.

“At a time when Donald Trump and his allies are pushing an increasingly authoritarian agenda, Connecticut is showing the nation that democracy is alive and well. We will not go backward. We will not allow our freedoms, or our values to be dismantled. I am proud to be on the front lines pushing back against Trump’s dangerous, corrupt, and anti-democratic movement.”

“Yesterday’s election was a powerful rebuke of the Trump agenda. From Virginia, to New Jersey, to New York, and around the nation, voters chose inspiring Democratic candidates and showed they are fed up with the high cost of living and Republican corruption. Importantly, Democrats showed they will not back down from a fight. I applaud Governor Newsom and the voters of California who overwhelmingly approved Proposition 50 to fight fire with fire. Democrats won’t sit idly by as Republicans try to rig the midterms with racial gerrymanders. We have the momentum and are ready to take back the majority in the House and hold this administration accountable.”

Larson concluded with a message of unity and momentum.

“To all who won: congratulations. To all who ran: thank you for stepping up. And to the voters who made their voices heard: this victory belongs to you. Let’s continue the work of building a fairer, safer, and more compassionate Connecticut, together.”
