FASPE is a nonprofit
organization that grants fellowships to individuals in professional schools and in the early stage of their careers in the fields of business, journalism, law, design and technology, medicine, and seminary. Fellows travel to Poland and Germany to engage with
questions of professional ethics by studying the transgressions of their Holocaust-era predecessors. Eder has served on FASPE’s Board for 12 years, committed to its mission of promoting an ethical future.
“Andy represents the essence of FASPE – he practices ethical, empathetic and effective leadership in his business and in his philanthropy. He is always searching for ways to combine his financial resources with his creativity,
non-profit experience, intellectual and emotional commitments.” - FASPE Founder and Board Chair,
David Goldman
FASPE has nearly 700 Alumni around the globe – professionals who bring a heightened sensitivity to the ethical issues in their fields. FASPE fellows are regularly raising their voices in the most influential media venues and playing key roles in powerful institutions
across all disciplines.
Thorsten Wagner, FASPE’s Executive Director for Strategy and Academics said
“Andy Eder is a wise and experienced business leader, who has been instrumental in building FASPE from its inception. We are honored to endow a faculty position in his name, and we are proud that he is part of the FASPE
family.”
Andrew Eder shared:
“Many people think of nonprofits in terms of giving both time and/or money. While those components are quite important, when I look back at my years of nonprofit affiliation, I remember what I have been fortunate to receive:
the people I have met, the great work I have witnessed, missions that are noteworthy, insights from individuals served, and the joy of working together to make things a little bit better for others.
Not only did I get all of that from FASPE, but also, I was able to experience firsthand FASPE’s mission in Eastern Europe 3 separate times. The pinnacle was being part of a student trip for one week. To be clear, my fellow
travelers were in their 20’s attending graduate schools, and I was in my young 60’s then. I saw the sights that they saw, spent time learning in the same classrooms, ate most meals with them, and laughed and cried with them as well. In addition to my leadership
roles at FASPE, its ethics training has personally provided me with a way of thinking which has frequently helped me navigate my own issues.”

About FASPE:
FASPE’s mission is to challenge graduate students and future leaders to recognize and confront their ethical responsibilities as professionals by analyzing the decisions and actions of Nazi-era professionals. At the core of FASPE are its fellowship programs—Business,
Journalism, Law, Medicine, Seminary, Design and Technology. Fellowships are awarded to graduate students in professional schools and to early-career professionals.
The Fellowships are comprised of intense 2-week study trips held in Germany and Poland where fellows study the actions and choices of their professional counterparts in Germany between 1933 and 1945, underscoring that moral codes governing the professions can
break down or be distorted with devastating consequences. Through this examination of ethical failures in what was a progressive, modern society, fellows learn about the critical role that professionals play and their impact — positive or negative — as leaders.
FASPE challenges its fellows to become acutely aware of their responsibilities as respected professionals in their communities and to act in an ethical fashion.
FASPE offers a contemporary approach to the study of the Holocaust by focusing on the actions of the perpetrators rather than on its victims. Through the
power of place, history, and immersive contextual learning, FASPE has created a uniquely effective means for studying contemporary ethics — well beyond what is often a rules-based approach in the traditional
classroom. FASPE awarded its first fellowships in 2010 and now counts over 650 alumni. As a highly competitive program, FASPE accepts only 90 fellows (12 - 14 in each of the professions) from nearly 1000 applications per year. FASPE’s faculty is drawn from
international Holocaust historians, practicing professionals and leading academics working in ethics.
FASPE also moves the public conversation on ethics forward through its Public programs – webinars and forums in which its staff, alumni, and guest luminaries - Pulitzer Prize Winners, acclaimed historians, and practitioners - discuss society’s most urgent moral
challenges.
FASPE’s Corporate Training program advises law firms, businesses, and executives on ethical leadership. FASPE also presents the annual
Awards for Ethical Leadership, celebrating individuals, corporations, and Alumni whose leadership had demonstrated the highest of ethical standards in their fields. (2021
Honorees: Anthony Fauci, Bryan Stevenson, Mastercard, and Peabody Award Winning Journalist/FASPE’s Martine Powers.)
