Animal Welfare Caucus to Highlight 2026 Legislative Priorities to Combat Rising Animal Abuse & Strengthen Protections Across Connecticut
WHAT: At 9:30AM on Tuesday, January 27, the CT Legislative Animal Welfare Caucus will be releasing its legislative agenda for the 2026 Connecticut General Assembly session, outlining a comprehensive package of proposals to address the alarming increase in reported animal cruelty cases, including starvation and enhance protections for animals statewide. The CT Animal Advocate Group Desmond’s Army will also be in attendance.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
Recent data indicate a significant uptick in animal abuse and neglect incidents in Connecticut, with advocacy groups reporting increases of roughly 30-40% in recent years. These disturbing trends underscore the urgency of strengthening state laws to protect
both companion animals and wildlife, hold abusers accountable, and curb systemic cruelty.
