Parking information and other details for Central commencement 2026

MEDIA ADVISORY – May 16, 2026

New Britain, Conn. - Central Connecticut State University will host two outdoor commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 16. (The inclement weather date is Sunday, May 17.) Both ceremonies also will be livestreamed at www.ccsu.edu/commencement/. A media feed will be available.

The commencement ceremonies will take place on campus at Arute Field where undergraduates and graduates of each school will be recognized according to the following schedule:

9 a.m. ceremony (gates open at 7:30 a.m.)

  • Carol A. Ammon College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences
  • School of Business

2:30 p.m. ceremony (gates open at 1 p.m.)

  • School of Education
  • School of Engineering, Science & Technology
  • College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences

The names of each degree candidate will be read aloud during both ceremonies.

*Embargoed until 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16: At the close of the afternoon ceremony, one of our graduates will propose to his girlfriend to the left of the stage. (Not on the stage; on the field in front of the stage, to the left if facing the stage.)

PARKING

Please see the attached map or click here to locate the parking areas below.

  • There will be limited parking spaces for media at the event staging area. To reach that parking area, please take Wells Street, which is off East Street in New Britain. Proceed to the marked checkpoint and check in with the police officer on duty. If there are no parking spots available, you will be directed to another parking area. If using GPS, use 60 Wells St. as a starting point.

 

  • Guest parking is available elsewhere at the Student Center garage and parking lot; Welte garage and parking lot; and the Copernicus garage. If using GPS, use 105 Ella Grasso Blvd. in New Britain as a starting point.

 

  • Accessible parking will be available in Kaiser parking lot.

 

  • Shuttle buses to Arute Stadium will be available. Shuttles will pick up passengers at Welte garage and parking lot.

 

  • We anticipate that Ella Grasso Boulevard will be congested from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If possible, use alternative routes to get to campus, such as Barbour Road and Manafort Drive.
