Child Guidance Center Names Director of Gender, Diversity and Resilience Program
STAMFORD, CT, December 6, 2021: Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC) has named Renée Reopell, LCSW, as the newly appointed Director of CGC’s Gender, Diversity and Resilience (GDR) Program. In this role, Renée will oversee all aspects of CGC’s GDR Program which provides psychosocial and medical support for youth ages 10-18 who are transgender, non-binary (TNB), or questioning the gender they were assigned at birth. Founded in 2020 by a multi-disciplinary team of two psychologists, Jessica Welt and Amanda Poling-Tierney, psychiatric APRN, Reese Ramponi, May Ragna Fianna LMFT, and medical NP, Terri Fleming, this program, based in Stamford, serves teens from across the state of Connecticut. Renée Reopell (they/them), is a genderqueer, Nu Yorican advocating for intentional mental resilience and well-being for TNB folx. Renée received their master's in social work at New York University, and has been privileged to support young adults at Hetrick Martin Institute, Trinity Place Shelter, and Montefiore Hospital's first LGBTQ youth program, the Umbrella Program serving youth & families, through the Adolescent AIDS Program, during which time they received the Bronx Borough President's Citation of Merit for Outstanding Work with the Bronx LGBTQ+ Community. Most recently, Renée was a mental health therapist at the Adult AIDS Clinic at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, and continues education as an appointed faculty at the Einstein College of Medicine's Family and Social Medicine Department. Currently, they are a group clinician at the Ackerman Institute's Gender and Families Project and work in private practice from a health equity framework.
CGC’s Chief Executive Officer and Clinical Director, Jessica L. Welt, PsyD, said, “I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Renée to the clinical leadership of CGC. Their extensive experience and impressive background in mental health treatment of youth in the LGBTQ+ community will certainly complement and strengthen CGC’s GDR program.
