Seven Voting Precincts Selected to be Audited Following 2025 Municipal Primaries

HARTFORD, CT – On September 16, Deputy Secretary of the State Jennifer Barahona led a lottery to randomly select seven precincts from Connecticut’s September 9, 2025, municipal primary elections to have their machine totals audited. Five alternate precincts were also chosen in case any of the selected precincts cannot be audited.

“Post-election audits are a key part of making sure every vote counts,” said Deputy Secretary Barahona. “I want to thank our registrars of voters, town clerks, and election teams across the state for their dedication to safe, secure, and transparent elections.”

State law requires that at least five percent of all voting precincts, including central-count locations for absentee ballots, early voting, and same-day registration ballots, be audited following any election or primary, as prescribed by Connecticut General Statutes 9-320f. There were 127 precincts used during the September 9 municipal primaries.

During the audit, ballots from the chosen precincts will be matched against vote totals from the machines. After the audit is completed, the University of Connecticut and the Secretary of the State’s Office will review the results, which will then be released to the public.
