STATEMENT FROM JILLIAN GILCHREST ON ELECTION RESULTS
West Hartford, CT — Jillian Gilchrest, a state representative from West Hartford and Democratic candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 1st District, released the following statement on the results of Tuesday’s election.
“Last night’s election was, in the most technical sense, an ass kicking. The results in Connecticut and across the country made clear that voters are eager to push past the corrupt and authoritarian Trump era, and the outdated politics that gave it rise, building something better in its place.
“Women broke barriers and won big, from the first female governors elected in New Jersey and Virginia to a wave of women taking local office here in Connecticut. Their victories reflect what I’ve been hearing in my own race: that people want a different kind of politics, with new kinds of leaders. A politics grounded in optimism, accountability, and a vision for what our future can be. Nowhere was this more clear than to our south in New York City, where highly energized voters rejected the cynicism and complacency of the old guard, proving that when we believe in each other and demand better, we can build a government that truly — finally — works for the people it serves.”
