The East End NRZ Market & Café Announce Department of Agriculture Local Healthy foods Initiative “City Fresh” in Partnership with the City of Bridgeport

 

WHO:            Mayor Joseph P. Ganim, City of Bridgeport; Deborah Sims, Community Champion of East End NRZ Market & Café; Keith Williams, Board Chair of East End NRZ; Bryan P. Hurlburt, Commissioner, CT Department of Agriculture; State of CT State Representative Andre Baker; Pinch of Salt Chef Raquel Rivera; City Council members, along with local agency partners and community members

 

WHAT:          The East End NRZ Market and Cafe in partnership with the City of Bridgeport and its Office of Sustainability announce a 3-year grant award of $500,000 from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture through funding by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Local Food Procurement Assistance Cooperative Agreement (LFPA). The grant funds will be utilized to promote CT Grown farm products while supporting historically excluded farmers as well as providing residents in food deserts with access to fresh healthy produce.

 

The grant initiative named “City Fresh” provides access to locally grown foods while educating and empowering community members to cook with the fresh fruits and vegetables provided by Connecticut farmers to make various diverse and culturally relevant recipes and meals.
