New Britain Delegation Statement on Stanley Black and Decker Closing

New Britain, CT – "Today’s announcement that Stanley Black & Decker will close its Myrtle Street manufacturing facility is deeply disappointing and a significant loss for the City of New Britain.

For decades, Stanley has been a cornerstone employer in our community, providing stable, well-paying jobs to hundreds of residents and contributing to the economic vitality of our city. The closure of this facility will have a ripple effect across New Britain, impacting workers, families, small businesses, and our broader local economy.

Our primary concern right now is for the hardworking men and women who will soon be without jobs. These are families who have built their lives around this work, and they deserve our full support during this transition.

While we recognize that corporations must make business decisions, we are deeply frustrated that once again working people are left to bear the burden of economic uncertainty and rising costs. Decisions made at the federal level, including tariff policies, have created instability that continues to impact manufacturers and workers alike.

The New Britain Delegation is committed to doing everything in our power to support those affected. We will work closely with Governor Lamont’s office, Mayor Sanchez, state workforce agencies, and community partners to connect displaced employees with new job opportunities, retraining programs, and any available financial assistance.

Stanley Black & Decker may be closing this facility, but we will not turn our backs on the workers who helped build this company’s legacy in New Britain. We are ready to assist every impacted employee and ensure they are positioned for success moving forward."
