RYAN FAZIO AND CT GOP CONTINUE TO SIDE WITH I.C.E.
Hartford, CT – This week, the escalating abuses of federal immigration authorities were in the national spotlight again after ICE shootings during vehicle stops in Maine and Houston. In both cases, the victims were not the targets of the operation. In both cases, the officers were not wearing body cameras. And in both cases, the federal government has asserted the officers responsible were firing in self-defense without any evidence.
Connecticut Democratic leaders, including Governor Ned Lamont and Attorney General William Tong, have done everything in their power to combat the disturbing overreaches of federal immigration authorities. However, Ryan Fazio and the Connecticut GOP have made one thing very clear: they stand with ICE, not Connecticut.
As lawmakers in Connecticut and around the country condemn these egregious incidents, Ryan Fazio and the CT GOP’s silence speaks volumes.
After all, this is the same Ryan Fazio who said he “appreciate[s] the work of federal immigration enforcement” as Trump escalated these operations nationwide last year.
It’s the same Ryan Fazio whose only response to a direct question about earlier fatal ICE shootings in Oregon and Minnesota was “I think we need to learn more.”
It’s the same Ryan Fazio who used his first TV ad to make the ludicrous promise that he, personally, would “deport criminal illegals” from Connecticut.
And it’s the same Ryan Fazio who voted to let ICE officers raid schools, hospitals, and houses of worship. The one who voted against the right to sue immigration officers if they violate your civil rights. The one who sided with Trump when he sued to stop Connecticut’s ICE mask ban.
