Himes to visit United Way, Salvation Army, celebrate Stamford School-Based Health Center Opening
Bridgeport, CT – Tomorrow, September 22nd, at 10:30 AM, Congressman Jim Himes will visit United Way of Western CT’s Full-Service Community School to hear how its turnaround strategies have led to improvements in attendance, school culture, and discipline rates in two Stamford middle schools. There, he will speak with staff, parents, and students to learn more about the benefits of United Way’s coordinated approach to student intervention and how federal funding supports those efforts.
THEN, at 2:15 PM, Congressman Himes will visit The Salvation Army in Stamford to learn about its community programming and tour its facility. There, he will meet with state and local Salvation Army staff and discuss the non-profit’s preparations ahead of the holiday season. In 2023 alone, over 2.4 million people throughout the country received food, gifts, and other essential goods from The Salvation Army during the holidays.
Finally, at 3:15 PM, Congressman Himes will join Stamford Superintendent Tamu Lucero and Family Centers’ CEO Louis Josephson at Turn of River Middle School to celebrate the opening of its new School-Based Health Center. Family Centers’ School-Based Health Centers are free-standing, federally qualified medical centers open to all students where a clinic is located, regardless of income or health care coverage. The Turn of River School health center was made possible, in part, thanks to $1,000,000 in federal community project funding secured by Congressman Himes.
