CONNECTICUT COUNCIL OF POLICE ANNOUNCE SUPPORT FOR MALLOY-WYMAN
Cheshire, CT -- The Connecticut Council of Police, AFSCME Council 15, endorsed Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman for re-election. Representing 3,000 police in 60 municipalities, Council 15 is the largest union of police officers in the state.
“Crime and shootings are down, and the murder rate is at its third lowest rate in the last 40 years thanks in large part to the leadership of Governor Dan Malloy,” said Jeff Matchett, Executive Director of the Connecticut Council of Police, AFSCME Council 15, and 20-year veteran of the Milford Police Department*. “Governor Malloy has stood side-by-side with first responders in some the deepest challenges our state has ever faced. From gun safety to disaster response, Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman have worked together with local police to ensure safety for local communities and officers.”
“Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman have helped to keep local police on the beat, even in tough economic times,” said Council President Patrick Gaynor, who is with the Meriden Police Department* for the past 18 years. “They promised to protect state funding to cities and towns, and they did. That has kept police officers on the street protecting our small towns and big cities.”
“There is more progress to be made -- from getting more illegal guns off the streets to ensuring police officers have the needed mental health supports after traumatic events,” continued Matchett. “We need Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman at the helm for another four years, and we are going to work very hard to ensure they are re-elected.”
"Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman’s ongoing support for collective bargaining rights proves to us that they understand how important it is to strengthen Connecticut’s middle class,” continued Gaynor. “Being a police officer is a dangerous job, so we especially value their support as we strive to make these jobs the best they can be.”
