WEDNESDAY: LAWMAKERS, FAMILIES OF VICTIMS OF GUN VIOLENCE FROM 20 STATES, ADVOCATES TO DEMAND CONGRESS REJECT “ARM ANYONE” CONCEALED-CARRY LEGISLATION
Washington, D.C. – House and Senate lawmakers, family members of gun violence victims from 20 states, and gun violence prevention advocates will stand together to speak out against the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, legislation that would allow more dangerous criminals and untrained individuals to carry loaded, hidden guns in public places by forcing states with strong concealed carry laws to honor permits from states with weak or non-existent standards. Speakers will stand with 100 family members of the victims of gun violence from 20 states throughout the country during the event.
The House is set to consider concealed carry legislation less than two weeks before the fifth anniversary of the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, and just over two months following the deadliest mass shooting in American history.
The press conference will take place hours before the 5th Annual National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, commemorating the victims at Sandy Hook, as well as the 500,000 American victims and survivors of gun violence since December 2012.
