I don’t get to Reimers Proper much anymore. The trail is harder on my foot-problem than is North Shore’s trail.
I want to pass on the “spit trick” taught to me by Karl V.
We’ve seen a couple sticky gates at North Shore, on 5-year-old hardly-used Fixe sport clips. On the one I encountered, I couldn’t clip the rope with one hand. With two hands I could force the gate part way open, and force it closed.
Next step, I spat saliva on the gate hinge and worked it open and closed for about 2 minutes, reapplying spit a couple times. Saliva seems key in carrying grains of dirt out of the gate. Maybe water would work as well, but saliva is a whole lot more convenient. (“That’s what She said.” –The Office)
Smelly Cat Calvin’ s anchors are probably a lot older and get lots of traffic…but please try the saliva before replacing them.
Thanks!

Saliva might work better. Not necessarily faster. WD40 or Silicone will leave sticky matter in that hinge. Saliva is largely water, which will evaporate.
