Folks-

We have a room for the event/meeting on the 28th at CCSU. We dont have much time to build for it, so I suggest this format:

Intro by me to overview march 4th actions and the national struggle
starting at 2PM - Panel Discussion on the state of education in Connecticut (Jason O., Josh, and Kate would you be willing to participate? I will call everyone soon)
5 minute Break
Reconvene for discussion of next steps for Connecticut and what we can expect next year

Thoughts?

Location?

Clarify--you mean Sunday March 28, not April 28.

I was just at Vance 105 from 1:50-2:10pm. There was no one there. Was the
meeting canceled?

Attached you'll see a play-by-play update of the current fight in Hartford.
The Hartford Superintendent is seeking to change the teachers' and
administrators' contracts via the State Board of Education. He wants to do
away with system-wide seniority and go to school-based seniority. He says
this is to protect "specially trained" teachers at magnet schools.

If this goes forward, EVERY teacher in CT would be affected because this is
an attack on CT's Teacher Tenure Act, which every teacher is protected by.
This is a microcosm of the nationwide assault on teachers and unionists.

I'm not sure what this group is building toward, but I'm still interested
in helping. But communication has got to improve.

ps. For an update on the state-wide developments for elementary and
secondary education, see this story on some major statute changes that
could get passed:
http://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-parent-trigger-0327.artmar26,0,1154625.story

These are all to make CT compete in Obama's "Race to the Top" federal
education funds competition.

Josh-

Sorry about that, I meant to try and catch you but I didn't have your number. The only people that showed up were the speakers and myself so we went out for lunch. For now we are prioritizing local work as it is clear that statewide coordination will only pull energies away from that. K-12 looks like it will be a huge part of that tho, so keep up the good work and we will stay in touch.
