i was searching on meetup.com and couldn't find a Cape Town Java meetup group on there - Is someone keen to start one?

I want to volunteer to give a talk on Java SSL, which i can organise, with corporate sponsor for drinks and snacks (SOLIDitech) - however beyond that, i'm not suitable to be an ongoing organiser of such a meetup group

Maybe the CTJUG mailing list owners can start a Meetup group.

Evan, I just checked my Meetup groups related to software for those with the most members - might be a good starting point if you want to "advertise" your talk to a lot of people, though it might not go down well if its very Java-centric.

1. Cape Town Front-end Developers: http://www.meetup.com/ctfeds/  (okay, not relevant for SSL I guess, but its the group with the most members)
2. Cape Town Software Developers: http://www.meetup.com/Cape-Town-Software-Developers/

Hope this helps in some small way,
Serdyn

I think every time someone has suggestions the response is that
whoever has energy is welcome to organise. Personally I haven't
touched any JVM technology for several years and I'm about to leave
the country for six months so there is easily room to be made on the
CTJUG committee.

If someone from the committee wants to create a meetup.com group, I'll propose my SSL talk there

Otherwise, if i don't hear anything, i'll guess i'll take the bull by the horns and create a meetup.com group e.g. "Cape Town Java Developers" - or "CTJUG"?

I'm not actively using Java much myself these days as working in digital media industry using Node, and so I'm in Node community - e.g. giving my second talk @NodeCPT tomorrow (tuesday) by the way - on "Redis and React" for Node

However I want to share some of my knowledge on Java SSL (keytool, keystores, trust managers etc) which I was working a lot with in 2010 - 2013 - before it gets totally pushed out of my head ;) I wrote some blog articles on it this year, which was a refresher for myself

ps. i'm giving an open "practise" talk on Wednesday on "React and Webpack" i.e. frontend - if anyone interested in attending, please tweet me @evanxsummers as i'll be confirming venue details tomorrow for wednesday

Has this happened? I don't see any meetup groups ...

Evan, I'd be willing to assist with a talk like that - I'm busy doing some Java <=> Ruby Crypto integration work so I could give the Ruby perspective.

Thanks Mike, sounds good for a follow up talk.

I am available to give a talk on Java SSL and have a corporate sponsor for that, namely SOLIDitech, and venue near N1 City for August

Beyond that i don't expect to be involved much
