Dear Supporter of Camerata Tinta Barocca

Just a last reminder of the Cape Town Baroque Festival (CTBF), 21 - 23 September

Tickets are selling fast, so please avoid disappointment by booking in advance. For more information about the festival programme and for tickets visit: https://ctbaroque.co.za/festival/ or see the full programme and booking details below. For information about discount Festival Passes, scroll to the bottom of this mail.

Please note that the opening concert (Glorious Baroque, Friday 21 September) will be broadcast live on FMR, and it is therefore crucial that the concert starts on time (at 20.00). Please arrive in good time in order to help us in this regard.

On a personal note: the CTBF would like to express their heartfelt condolences to Nick de Jager, whose mother passed away a few days ago. He would therefore not be able to sing in the 'Mixed doubles' programme on Sunday.  We would like to thank tenor Willem Bester for agreeing to step in at short notice. The programme remains unchanged.

We are looking forward to sharing a weekend of baroque music with you!

David Bowie Reworked (repeat concert)

Sunday 23 September 21.00 - 22.00

Alexander Upstairs, Alexander Bar, 76 Strand Street

This concert features works from the heyday of the iconic musician and entertainer David Bowie, dubbed the “Chameleon of Rock” and a master of reinvention. The works are conceptually reimagined as baroque compositions – a nod to his ability to revamp his music and image numerous times over a long and illustrious career. The music has been arranged by Stellenbosch-based composer Jan-Hendrik Harley, and will be performed on period instruments. The Bowie pieces will alternate with anonymous baroque works that reflect the recurring themes of angst, fear and alienation found in Bowie’s music.

With: Ensemble Je Ne Comprends Pas – Jan-Hendrik Harley (violin, guitar and direction), Joshua Frank (recorder and guitar), Mariechen Meyer (double bass) and John Pringle (percussion)

Tickets: R140 at the door/R120 online
