12/27/12 - Windsor/Bloomfield Landfill, Windsor -- LARK SPARROW, 2 VESPER SPARROWS, 2nd winter GLAUCOUS GULL. Late afternoon. Photos taken. The sparrows were together in the 50'x40'ish grass "island" with the blue vent pipe in the middle that is roughly 150' SSE of the active trash pile and in the northeast corner of the last plowed T in the road. If they are still present tomorrow they should be very easy to find and care should be taken not to bump them out of the grass area as there isn't any place for them to go thats nearby.

12/28 - the Lark Sparrow continues, as does the Glaucous Gull.

All subject birds seen around noon. The gulls are very active and flying around. The Glaucous whizzed by at one point but I never saw it sitting. Jim's comments about giving the sparrows some room are spot on, especially given that they are surrounded by as many as 2,000 large gulls that turn them into nuggets if they had the chance.

Apparently there is a bit of confusion as to where the Lark Sparrow is being seen. As you enter the dump, go straight until the big arrow steers you to the left. Follow down the road until the road splits in 2 directions, and there is a sort of turn-around area. On the right hand side of this turn-around area is where the sparrows are hanging out, sometimes quite close to the road. Behind it is a big pile of garbage with cardboard boxes on top, and the glaucous gull was seen hanging out there this morning, but of course moves around as fresh garbage comes in.
