12-31-25 In response to Bluebird feeder discussion. I have a cage feed with 1x1.5 openings and the bluebirds easily enter( along with others) and the larger birds try from the edges. I have found a wonderful ‘food’. I call it ‘Zuet' since the formula comes from Julie Zickefoose:

Melt in microwave and stir together:
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup lard ( cooking oil)

Mix in large bowl:
2 cups chick starter(unmedicated)
2 cups quick oats
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup flour

Add melted to dry and mix well

C’est tout!! Ernie, Colchester

Thank you Ernie - an excellent recipe with one, I think, important comment:  regular peanut butter contains 2 grams of added sugar (per serving) - I've always understood sugar is not good for birds.  "Natural" peanut butter has some but no added sugars.  More expensive and oily, but the birds do love a similar recipe I've used for years.  Please tell me I'm wrong, it's OK!
