Not big news, but perhaps noteworthy or at least a pleasant little story. Last winter, we noted a partially leucistic male Junco visiting our feeders. Its head was mottled white and gray but its plumage was otherwise normal. We are pleased to report that the same bird is visiting our feeders again this winter. The observation reinforces two points: that leucistic areas persist through molts and many if not most migratory birds are faithful to their wintering grounds just as they often are to their breeding grounds.
Happy holidays everyone!
