My name is Capt. Ian Devlin.i live in East Norwalk, CT. I've been giving rides to see the Bridled Tern at Faulkner's Island in the last few days. My boat is at the marina at the moment getting some work done to it, and will be out of the water until this weekend.

I can take 3 passengers maximum on my 17' boat. Charge is $75/hour and does not include $150 to trailer my boat to Guilford from Norwalk and back to Norwalk (about 1 hour each way). For example two hours birding at Faulkner's Island would be $300, and that includes getting the boat to Guilford from Norwalk. Split three ways by three people onboard would be $100/person for two hours of birding.

I hope to have my boat back soon and take you to see the bird if it's still there. We have had tremendous looks at the bird on two of the three trips that I have taken. A big thank you to Tina Green for getting the ball rolling for me to take you to see this very rare bird to our area. I hope to do many more of these trips in the near future!

Hello All,

I will be at Guilford Town Ramp today, and also tomorrow from 1pm until sunset. First come, first serve. I can take up to three passengers on my 17' boat. Rate is $75/hour for the boat. Most trips are two to three hours.

There is an additional charge to get my boat to Guilford and back to Norwalk via I-95 on its trailer. About an hour each way. The charge is $150. This will be divided up per trip based upon how many trips I take. This is what I've decided to be most fair to everyone, and myself. Example: if I take three trips, the $150 boat transportation charge would be $50/trip added. If I have two trips, it would be $75/trip added. If I have only one trip, they would pay the full $150/trip added to their trip. Comprendé?

The Bridled Tern is incredibly beautiful and so rare to the area. This bird is only the second one ever documented in Connecticut. I've been so happy to get many birders to see it, in most cases a life bird (including myself). I've now taken about 15 trips to see the bird, and we only struck out three times. Not too bad. I've found it pays to stake out an area on the island where it has been recently seen. Other bonuses are several dozen Roseate Terns and a few Black Terns mixed in with up to 1000+ Common Terns. Mixed shorebirds, and the occasional Grey Seals too.

We're at Falkner now (11:30). No Bridled from 9 to 11:30. Number of terns way down from yesterday. But you never know if it will return.
