[CT Birds] Red-Shouldered Hawk, probable Merlin in West Hartford yard.

We had a small Falcon-like bird perched and then flying in our yard. The only difference from Merlin pictures is that the front of it was very pale with very scant grayish markings, and there was only one or two bands on the tail, not multiple ones. The tail seemed mostly white. Would anyone suppose this is still a Merlin? .
