For Mother's Day I was given a set of 3 little hummingbird houses. I have
never heard of such a thing. Is it possible that they would even consider
using them? They don't have a hole like a bird house, but one side is open
and there is a perch in the front. Cute, but I am questioning their value
as a bird house.

Dear Dixie,

These are something like a 'cute hoax.' They are completely invented fantasy, and no hummingbird would ever use one.

Just days ago, I came across an AI generated advertisement for this product on the internet, and was shocked at how brazen it is:
https://offer.cresally.com/offer/Cresally/wooden-house/view48180

Sorry they won’t be adopted by hummingbirds ! I hope they are a least cute?

That fake ad is astonishing!! Hummingbirds make their nests in open trees,
not cavities. When the leaves fell last fall I found two in my neighbor's
tree that none of us knew were there. But I do get them at my feeder, and
get to watch the youngsters learning to hunt fruit flies in my garden.

Honestly, that fake site looked real. I feel bad for folks who fall for
things like this.

Thank you, Dixie, for asking the question in the first place.

doubtful with our hummingbirds (Ruby-throated) which prefer a nest site near the drooping end of a tree limb, ideally over somewhat open forest floor and near or over water. Some hummingbird species do nest in rock crevices and niches, but not here.
