[CT Birds] Big January Starts Thursday!

Dear CT Birding Community,

New Year's is the start of both the Hartford County Big January of Birding,
sponsored by the Hartford Audubon Society, and also the all-CT Big January
sponsored by the CT Ornithological Association.

For HAS, anyone can participate, even if you're not a member or live
outside of Hartford County (but we'll ask you to join if you're not a
member! It's a great community of birders). The goal is for each
individual to find as many different species of wild birds in Hartford
County as possible and record your observations in eBird.

We encourage everyone to help each other -- NOT being competitive! -- and
helping to spread the joy of birding. Looking for birds in January is
tough, so if you find something, please share it over AllHAS or ctbirds!
Two things I love about Big January: seeing other birders out there and
sharing information, and finding new places to go birding. Every year I am
introduced to someplace great I didn't know existed -- thank you, other
birders!
