Thistle seed has a short lifespan. The seed dries up inside, so it should
generally be discarded after about 6 months if not eaten. You'll be amazed
at the difference putting fresh seed in your feeder makes! Whenever I see
activity die off at my feeders, I know it's time for new seed.

Hi everyone,

Does thistle seed go bad over time? I've had some stored in an airtight
container, but when I opened it this morning, I could the oil in it smelled
a little rancid. Does that matter?

Thanks,
Barbara
