"On the Wild Side", contemporary mixed media botanical art by Justine Ickes, is on view march 3 - April 9, 2026 at the Jamie Gagarin Gallery at the Oliver Wolcott Library in Litchfield, CT.
Please join Justine on Thursday, March 5 from 5 - 7 PM for the opening reception.
Justine creates mixed media works on wood, canvas and paper inspired by the natural world. Her semi-abstract imaginary landscapes and still life pieces often incorporate collaged hand-painted translucent papers which Justine embellishes with intuitive marks and patterns inspired by different art forms such as Japanese sashiko, Indian korma, and Islamic motifs. The translucency of the materials allows Justine to piece together an understory and an overstory where the colors, marks, and shapes speak to each other, just as in nature.
