Make Your Own Medallion with Michael Keropian
Make your own medal through relief work individual casting! You may bring in objects, patterns, drawings or engravings to use as a model, or can work with the instructor in the first class to determine a model.
This class is meant to be a learning experience where students have fun while making miniature works of art in a pressure-free environment. No prior experience needed!
When: Mondays, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM | June 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29

Landscape Painting en Plein Air with Edward DeVoe
Students learn to sketch their chosen subject learning to draw, mass and paint. Light, shadow and atmosphere are studied and students quickly grasp how the colors of nature are affected by these three controls.
Students make new work each week. All skill levels welcome.
When: Fridays, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM | May 15, 22, 29, June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 3
Location: Meeting points will vary from week to week, all in the greater Washington area.

How to Look at Painting (8 Ways of Seeing) Conversation Series with Megan Marden
We’ll focus on a different aspect of how paintings work: observation, proportion, space, color, edges, surface, and eventually the more elusive ideas of taste and what makes a painting last.
The class is meant to be a mutual learning experience.
When: Mondays, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM | June 15, 22, 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3
Location: This class is virtual and uses the Zoom and Padlet platforms to organize meetings and share work.

Discovering Calligraphy With a Master, Alibaba Awrang
Renowned Afghan master contemporary calligrapher Alibaba Awrang will introduce experienced artists and beginners to Persian contemporary calligraphy. One of the world’s leading living Persian calligraphers, with works hanging in museums throughout the world, Awrang will explain the historical role of calligraphy as an art form that conveys human emotions, aspirations, and beauty. He will demonstrate his art; and then invite you to try your hand (more specifically, your bamboo pen, with inks and paint, on paper) at creating your own original piece of contemporary calligraphy.

Take Great Photos With Smartphones Workshop with Peter Glass
MORE SIGNUPS NEEDED!
This class is for those interested in producing high-quality images with their smartphone cameras. That means learning and understanding the camera controls, as well as when and how to use them.
Everything necessary for taking great smartphone pictures will be addressed, including: Basic photographic theory, suggestions for hand-holding your camera, specific steps to follow when taking a picture and, how to compose your photographs to produce truly wonderful results.

Long Post Painting and Drawing Monitored by Scott Bricher
MORE SIGNUPS NEEDED!
Open, long-pose painting and drawing series. The lighting and model setup will be geared toward painting, though artists may also draw in this setting. The model will hold one pose, there will be simple lighting and backdrop, and easels will be provided. The series will be monitored by Scott Bricher without instruction.
If classes continue to fill, this series will become weekly, so please share this offering within your networks!

Field Trip to Cloudbreak Private Sculpture Park
WAA is excited to announce the upcoming field trip on June 2 to Cloudbreak, the private sculpture park and nature preserve in Washington! Joining us will be members of the New England Sculpture Association. This trip will be an enriching experience in landscape architecture, art and nature.
Please plan to arrive at 10:00 AM for a brief introduction to the sculptures and artists represented throughout the park and guided tour of the art barn.
When: Tuesday, June 2 | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Price: $10 per person
Where: Location will be shared with registered participants the week prior to the outing.
Please note:
- Attendees are not permitted to take photos on the grounds.
- The group will have access to a cart to drive around and/or be driven by Jared Stein, who is the primary groundskeeper, tour guide and facilitator of our visit.
