TORRINGTON, CONN. — Five Points Gallery presents two new exhibitions. In the upper two gallery spaces, 20 artists from the Printmakers' Network of Southern New England (PNSNE) present a wide variety of printing techniques that raise awareness of this time-honored tradition. In the Torrington Savings Bank Gallery, Brooke Toczylowski combines various natural media that speak to the world we live in, highlighting strong connections to the environment.

Bury Me In The Garden
Brooke Toczylowski’s interdisciplinary approach to artmaking incorporates natural elements pulled from her garden to build an understanding of our social, ecological, and historical relationship to the land. Using various plants such as the Red Amaranth plant and pokeweed, Brooke illustrates not only their physical form, but also by drawing the plant from observation or running it through a press. She also uses the plant’s natural dyes to draw out brilliant, contrasting hues, evoking a meditative emotional response.  Brooke States, “By engaging the senses and inviting in more-than-human collaborators [plants], I explore the space between borders and belonging.” Brooke’s paintings are then sewn together with layered monoprints of garden fencing stitched into full-body shrouds; thus, creating an immersive environment that allows viewers to contemplate the possibilities of regeneration and renewal.

IMPRESSIONS – Visions in Print showcases a diverse range of prints by members of The Printmakers’ Network of Southern New England (PNSNE). The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of longtime member Grace Bentley-Scheck (1937-2025)

The PNSNE exhibition features established and emerging artists whose mission is to educate the general public and promote an appreciation of this unique and versatile art form. The show features 20 artists: Shirley Bernstein, Joan Dix Blair, Claudia Fieo, Carol FitzSimonds, Donna Frustere, Joan Hausrath, Joan Jacobson Zamore, Haley Kean, Melody Knight Leary, Amanda Lebel, Jim Lee, Rhea Nowack, Barbara Pagh, Margot Rocklen, Julia Samuels, Mary Teichman, Kim Tester, Carmela Venti, Jo Yarrington, Yuemei Zhang.

Throughout history, printmakers have continued to explore ways to express their ideas, pushing boundaries as new and exciting methods evolve. These artists employ a wide range of processes and techniques associated with both traditional and contemporary printmaking, including: Etching, Woodblock, Linocut, Aquatint, Solar Printing, Collage, Photolithography, Screen Printing, Mezzotint, Reduction, Monotype, Drypoint, Planographic, Pochoir, and more.

There’s something magical about an inked surface, meeting paper, under pressure, that ignites the artist’s imagination and fuels the need for exploration. Helen Frankenthaler once said, “The magic happens in the process, not just the final image.”

The Printmakers’ Network of Southern New England is a group of established and emerging artist/printmakers. In addition to exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, and gallery talks, the Network has produced nine portfolios: a hand-bound collection of three artist books, two instructional videos, and four exhibition catalogs. Past exhibition venues include: the Mark Twain House & Museum, Cahoon Museum of American Art, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Newport Art Museum, and the Slater Memorial Museum, where the group’s work is archived.
