Real Art Ways is now accepting applications for the Provision Fund!
In its inaugural year, this new annual grant program will award six $10,000 project grants to Connecticut-based artists to support the creation of new work through an open call, juried process.
The 2026 jury will include artist Saya Woolfalk, author and curator Seph Rodney, and arts & cultural leader (from SPACE Gallery in Portland, Maine) Kelsey Halliday Johnson.
Cost: This grant is free to apply!
Deadline: 11:59 pm on September 20, 2026

One of the best things about working at Real Art Ways is that we are among some very talented artists!
Lauren Be Dear, an interdisciplinary artist who is also Real Art Ways' membership coordinator, is opening a solo show in New Haven. If you've seen Lauren's work, you know it's interactive, radically vulnerable, and creatively leans into the use of personal and family archival materials. We recommend saving the date for Lauren's opening and checking out all the other works on view in the Ely space.
If you can't make it on Friday, the Ely gallery is open Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday between noon and 5 pm and by appointment. Email Aimeé to schedule your visit.

A NEW SUMMER COHORT!

We know it's the official start of summer when we walk through the lobby of
56 Arbor, and it's filled with teens talking about films they're watching and projects they're bringing to life.
Eye on Video, Real Art Ways' youth filmmaking program, commenced a few weeks ago, and we couldn't be more thrilled to get to know these new apprentices. They are spending their weekdays with teaching artists from the Hartford Film Company, sharpening their storytelling skills and fine-tuning their craft.
We'll introduce some of the apprentices over the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for program spotlights coming soon!

Dr. Natale Sciolino, Assistant Professor of Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Connecticut, will lead a discussion on our preoccupation with thrill-seeking. Find out how adrenaline affects your brain and the role it plays in daily life.
Dr. Sciolino's talk begins at 3. Point Break (starring a swoon-worthy Keanu Reeves and the late, great Patrick Swayze) screens at 3:30.

Science on Screen is a national program that brings science to cinemas. The program launched at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Massachusetts, in 2005, in partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and has since enhanced scientific literacy among moviegoing audiences across the country.
