Lydia Viscardi Lydia builds her worlds out of collage. She clips jewels, watches, and gold from glossy luxury ads and scatters them across a night sky, so what looks like a field of stars turns out to be diamonds. At the bottom of each piece sits a tiny earth, a little village, a child, a flower. She calls the series Spaceshots: views of heaven from our small blue planet. They're funny and a little haunting at the same time. All that sparkle above, all that longing below. Works like Eat Before We Go and Neighborhood Watch are in the files now. |

The work comes out of a real practice of attention and compassion, and you feel it. Absurd, unsettling, and tender all at once.
