HARTFORD, CT. - Real Art Ways will host a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the imminent beginning of construction on a major expansion project in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford, Connecticut's capital city.
The new Real Art Ways will be a one-of-a-kind arts center, encouraging social interaction and artistic innovation 7 days and nights a week, and will include:
-
Four Movie Screens. Real Art Ways shows independent and international films, 7 days a week, currently with only a single screen. Having 4 screens will allow flexibility in programming. Expanded programs will include Science on Screen, featuring notable scientists; film festivals, screening & audience engagement opportunities for area filmmakers, and much more.
-
A new performance space that will feature theatrical presentations, concerts, performance art and more.
-
Educational spaces for classes and workshops. Real Art Ways will increase year-round educational opportunities. Current programs - including Park Art, Film Field Trips, and Eye on Video - will expand, and additional programming will be offered for youth and adults.
-
Renovation of Galleries. Real Art Ways will renovate existing galleries.
-
A full-service Cafe, which will become a vibrant gathering spot for people from varied walks of life to come together before, during and after events.
"People from around the region will be able to come and experience movies, art, performing arts and community, all in one place," says Real Art Ways' Executive Director Will K. Wilkins.
Investment in Culture and Economy
Real Art Ways' ongoing capital campaign, with $22 million raised of a $24 million goal, is demonstrating the deep commitment of our community and State.
Real Art Ways began 50 years ago, created as a live-work space in downtown Hartford by artists, musicians, filmmakers, performers, and writers. It has long been a space where alternative perspectives and ideas are nurtured and have a home.
"With Real Art Ways' expansion, we are opening our arms wider than ever before," says Wilkins.
