“New Paintings,” works by Patrick Hughes, will be featured in The Spotlight Gallery. Hughes, who holds a BA in art education, did not however pursue a career in education. His professional path led him deep into the machine tool industry.  He retired recently as a manager of electrical and software engineering integrating robotics, lasers, and more, to high end automatic machinery. This creative work experience gives him a unique perspective to draw from in his abstract painting.

Since retiring in 2023, Hughes has fully immersed himself in his studio practice. He applies the methodologies of technical problem-solving to the spontaneous challenges of abstraction. His resulting work is an expression of his understanding of his life experience, striving for paintings that are structurally intriguing, accessible and allow the viewer to connect on an emotional level. His rich and varied work aligns with a strong tradition in abstract art.
