The Watercolor Pages with Grace McEnaney
Sundays, 12:45 PM to 3:15 PM | February 8, 15, 22, March 1 and 8
The Watercolor Pages is a five-week introduction to the watercolor medium where we will take a deep dive into the concepts of Design, Technique and Flow. You will see how these three ideas become the foundation of our watercolor practice. We will explore values, washes, blending, watering off, textures, layers, negative painting, lifting, color theory and more through fun and beautiful exercises using our jewel toned pigments and water. As your creative intuition develops, you will feel yourself transforming into becoming an artist. At the end of the five weeks, you will have a beautiful journal, frameable works of art and the ultimate joy of fulfilling your dream of being a watercolor painter. Let your Sundays truly become a day of rest and relaxation with our winter watercolor class.

A Nude in the Church with Bryan LeBoeuf
Sundays, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM | January 18, 25, February 1, 18, 15 and 22
This life drawing class aims to build the fundamental basis of drawing through direct observation. Throughout the weeks long course, it will address key components of line, form, gesture, light, shadow, composition, and perspective all concentrated through the figure at incremental pose lengths in time. Students should come away with a core of a working method from beginning and completion of drawing through observing the live model.

Stained Glass Suncatcher with Sarah Segovia

In this beginner class, students will learn basic techniques of the stained glass craft. You will create your very own stained glass suncatcher in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. All ages welcome. No experience necessary.

Winter Watercolor with Megan Marden

This class embraces the immediacy and portability of watercolor to explore seeing, interpreting, and responding to the world around us. Students will create small works based on everyday objects and observations, with an emphasis on process over perfection. Close looking at both our own work and the work of artists from art history will play a central role in shaping each week’s projects. We’ll explore a range of watercolor techniques while learning to embrace the element of chance, imperfection, and the evolving nature of a painting.

Looking for an impressionistic spontaneity in your work? Do you want to apply your paint in a more gestural, painterly manner? Want to stop overworking details? Students will learn tips on how to communicate visually with suggestions rather than trying to describe everything in precise detail. Students will loosen up by using bigger brushes, more paint, working faster, and placing marks & gestures with purpose and intention. The more you simplify what you do, the more it frees your mind to concentrate on staying loose.

Come Write with Me, Two-Day Workshop with Dorothy Lyman

Dorothy Lyman. Playwright, actor, monologist and teacher offers an ongoing writing workshop to develop your Memoir. Identify and develop your seminal story, the one only you can tell! Socrates said “Know Thyself.” What a wealth of discovery is possible in just those two words! Memoir, no matter why you write it, illuminates the self. Even if no one ever sees it, you have gotten it out of your system, gained perspective and opens new doors…And just might be surprised at what you discover. We will write together, hear each other’s work and identify the themes and stories that resonate with each of you. My goal is to create a community, a web of trust and curiosity about ourselves and our stories.

Indirect/Direct Painting with Bryan LeBoeuf
Wednesdays, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM | January 21, 28, February 4, 11, 18 and 25
This instructed class will provide students with the fundamental basis for how to begin and complete oil painting based on direct observation and technical understanding of the medium itself as well as provide students with a foundation of essential color and form theory. In addition to lectures on topics of light, form, color, demonstrations of techniques will also be shared.

Ongoing Open Life Drawing Session where students and professional artists alike may draw at their own pace from various live models to study the anatomy of the human form. We begin with four five-minute poses to warm up, the balance of the class the poses are of a 20-minute duration, allowing for a more developed, finished drawing. While there is no formal instruction, the atmosphere is friendly camaraderie and mutual support in building confidence.

Emotive Drawing requires you to leave behind all notions of what a drawing should be and focus on the body, its movement and the thoughts and feelings that occur as you draw. It’s a great process for anyone who hasn’t drawn before, or as a way to loosen up and re-invigorate your practice.

This class simplifies your understanding of how complementary colors build the complete canvas space to elevate the quality of your artwork. Radiant Light, Atmosphere, Form & Shadow all come from essential contrasts on your palette that allow you to create any personal expression you wish from a suggestion of reality to abstraction. You’ll be in control of the language of color with the freedom to explore unlimited possibilities. Bring your ongoing artwork for evaluation, or create a new series. All ideas and individual plans are welcome.

Brianna serves as the full-time art teacher for Region 12 schools, including Booth, Burnham, and Washington Primary School, where she teaches Kindergarten through Fifth grade. She finds pure delight in watching students discover and nurture their passion for art. Brianna’s latest venture, the Washington Art Association School Art Program (WAASAP! for short) aims to be a home away from home for your child. Here, children can create to their hearts’ delight while learning about famous artists and techniques in a nurturing and inspiring environment.
