Megafauna:
a selection of biomimetic drag
| | Graphic designed by Ezra Moth | |
HARTFORD, CONN. A wild, wonderful night when art, nature, and camp collide. On Friday, September 5, 7:00 pm, Real Art Ways and Ezra Moth present Megafauna: a selection of biomimetic drag, presented alongside Ezra’s immersive eco-art installation at Real Art Ways, transforming the exhibition’s sculptural and storytelling magic into a dazzling evening of performance.
Performers will take inspiration from the strange and spectacular world of living things, from the shimmer of fish scales to the whisper of fungi, from soaring birds to swarming bugs. Expect songs, stories, and jaw-dropping looks that celebrate the sea and the sky, the microscopic and the massive - all served with a generous helping of queerness, humor and theatrical flair.
It’s part drag show, part nature documentary, and certain to be unforgettable.

Ezra Moth (the art and performance pseudonym of Antonio P. Campelli) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans both scientific curiosities and dreamlike utopias. Part mad scientist, part sculptor, and part drag persona, their work is inspired by the diversity, symbiosis, and queerness of nature.
Maljo Blu (they/she) is a creator, drag artist, and performer located in Brooklyn, New York. As a theatrical entertainer, she uses movement, costume, and projection to tell the story of her culture, past, and her fleeting attention span, all wrapped up in one little spooky bow.
Mx. Ology is Brooklyn’s premiere celebrity dentist– clinical bombshell, body horror princess, Dadaist comedian, and cartoon come to life – her strong command of narrative draws audiences into a world of absurd, sleazy fantasy.
Amygdala is an interdimensional apparition that merges the hypocritical, paradoxical, and absurd into immersive multimedia drag performances. With the hair of a horse and a mouth of piano keys, she’s lived many lives, phasing into the mortal coil only for mischief and an ice-cold Canada Dry.
| | Real Art Ways is a multidisciplinary arts organization with programs in visual and live arts, cinema, and education. It began in the fall of 1975 when a group of artists set up a live-work space in downtown Hartford. The organization has grown into one of the country’s best-respected contemporary art spaces, with support for artists and connections with the community as core values. Real Art Ways is notable for the excellence of its presentations. For example, Real Art Ways has presented 48 MacArthur “Genius” grantees (including 24 who are artists of color), more than any other arts organization in the United States. Real Art Ways embarked on a new chapter by purchasing 56 Arbor Street and is planning an expansion to launch in the spring of 2025. | | | | |
