In today's issue, lots to be thankful for. We have had a tremendous increase in the number of readers of this update, more than double last week. We start with the VA Avenue Tunnel TIGER grant

Amazingly, the proposal to dig a pit across Capitol Hill was submitted to DOT by none other than- the State of Ohio! VA and MD seconded the submittal to DOT. According to DOT the final decision on this application has to be made by February 17, but Secretary LaHood has said he will make his announcements in January.

We must contact Rep. Norton and our local elected leaders and ask them to remind USDOT that the District Government has not endorsed or funded this project. Without DC support DOT will not approve.

Secondly, ask Rep. Norton to oppose any earmark request from any member in the FY10 highway bill or Transportation Appropriation bill in support of the tunnel project.
