Happy Spring 2012.
On behalf of your MPH Student Org. at CSUN I would like to wish you a
fantastic year full of great experiences.
Two great opportunities have risen that we would love to share with you...
Firstly, For those of us graduating in this semester, Spring 2012,
please note that APHA has announced a REVISED membership category for
us that will allow us to pay less than the "professional" default rate
upon graduation. It's not as great as "student" rates, but hey, it's
more moolah in your pocket!
In case you can't see the full forwarded message below, here's the
abridged version:
"On January 1, 2012, APHA unveiled a revised membership structure with
more streamlined membership categories and adjusted dues levels. Now,
part time students (at least 6 credit hours) are eligible for student
membership within APHA and the Student Assembly! In addition, one of
the most exciting changes is the launch of a new “Early Career
Professional” category for individuals who graduated in the last 24
months. Perhaps this could be a great gift to new graduates! Along
with the traditional features of APHA membership, the Early Career
Professional will receive benefits exclusive to new professionals
entering the workforce. These changes are the first phase of a larger
membership discussion that will continue throughout 2012. Learn more
about the Early Career Professional category and other changes by
visiting the membership website or by contacting the membership
department (members...@apha.org; 202-777-2400)."
Secondly, for those of you interested in putting your public health
voice to action far before your graduation date, the APHA Student
Assembly is looking for Assembly Member applicant's. Make your name
stand out to professionals across the nation...Apply now! [Details

the Executive Committee liaison to committees of the SA, represents the
Student Assembly at all times, and ensures the health of the SA Board. In
the third year, the position becomes Immediate Past Chair and provides

*Secretary-Elect *is two-year term that begins at the closing of the Annual
Meeting in November. The first year, the Secretary-Elect is responsible
for ensuring that board communication occurs with relative ease, updates

Secretary of the SA and will be responsible for the collection and
distribution of monthly reports, taking minutes during the SA board calls,

****Be a part of APHA's Flu Near You Challenge and win up to $25,000!****
Help track the flu by taking part in APHA’s Flu Near You Challenge. Sign up
for the challenge and you could win cash and other awards!
So how does it work? APHA’s Get Ready campaign has teamed up with
HealthMap<http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=TpQdUO4ZzIV8_UdVhYUfVA>to
help track flu cases through a new online flu surveillance tool, Flu
Near You <http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=6TUQlRPG-bKrRPKh_I3npQ>. People
will use the tool to report their flu symptoms, which will help map
influenza. Flu Near You wants millions of people in the U.S. to participate.
And that’s where you come in. APHA is helping Flu Near You find those
millions of participants. We need you to recruit them, and we’re offering
cash and other awards to APHA members in appreciation of their efforts. In
short, we want you to find people — such as your friends, family,
co-workers, etc. — who are willing to report their flu symptoms (or lack of
them) weekly through Flu Near You surveys. The more people you sign up and
the more weekly surveys they fill out, the better chance you have of
winning an award.
Prizes: Want a chance to win a prize? If so, this is the challenge for you.
APHA's Flu Near You Challenge will be awarding more than $150,000 in cash
and other awards. You can win up to $25,000 individually and up to $50,000
for the Student Assembly or another member group you wish your participants
to count towards. Other prizes will be distributed throughout the contest
as well!
APHA’s Flu Near You Challenge, created with the support of the Skoll Global
Threats Fund <http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=oyMt7r0Q3KBAN4JC1cioow>, is
