APHA's Flu Near You Challenge - The Student Assembly is in 12th Place
and we need YOU!

By now you've heard of the APHA Flu Near You Challenge and the Student
Assembly is requesting your assistance! As of March 11th, 2012, the
Student Assembly is in 12th place. Please sign up here to register to
receive weekly surveys in order to track your flu symptoms. Your
responses will not only assist in tracking the influenza virus in the
United States, but will help Student Assembly towards the grand prize
of up to $50,000 to better service YOU, the students of the American

APHA Jay S. Drotman Award

The Jay S. Drotman Memorial Award was established to recognize the
career of a promising young public health professional or student. The
award was officially established in March 1979 by Peter Drotman, MD,
MPH in memory of his late brother and is presented annually by the

The Student Assembly Public Health Mentoring Award is intended to
recognize the essential role of mentoring in public health and
leadership development. It will be given annual to senior public

APHA Get Ready Essay Scholarship Contest: Deadline is March 26

APHA is now accepting entries for its 2012 Get Ready Scholarship. To
raise awareness about emergency preparedness, APHA is offering its
fourth annual Get Ready Scholarship. Learn about all the details,
requirements, rules and regulations on the Get Ready Scholarship Web
page. The scholarship is a component of APHA's Get Ready
campaign, which works to help Americans prepare themselves, their
families and their communities for all disasters and hazards,
including pandemic flu, infectious disease, natural disasters and
other emergencies. Six scholarships of $500 will be awarded: two
scholarships for high school seniors, two scholarships for college
undergraduates and two scholarships for graduate students. The
deadline for submissions is March 26, or until entry limits are

22nd Annual APHA Public Health Materials Contest

The APHA Public Health Education Health Promotion section is
soliciting your best health education, promotion and communication
materials for the 22nd annual competition. The contest provides a
forum to showcase public health materials during the APHA Annual
Meeting and recognizes professionals for their hard work.

All winners will be selected by panels of expert judges prior to the
140th APHA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. A session will
be held at the Annual Meeting to recognize winners, during which one
representative from the top materials selected in each category will
give a presentation about their material.

Entries will be accepted in three categories; health promotion print
materials, health promotion multi-media materials, and health
education training materials. Entries for the contest are due by April

One Voice Against Cancer Video Contest

One Voice Against Cancer, an organization of 40 groups dedicated to
the fight against cancer, is announcing its first ever video advocacy
contest, "Film It to Fight It!"

We are inviting public health students to put their talent to work in
support of the fight against cancer by submitting an original and
creative video in support of federal funding for cancer
research.  The winning videos will be shown at an event with
Members of Congress on Capitol Hill on July 9, 2012, and posted online
in support OVAC's advocacy efforts.
