CULTURE OF PEACE DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER SERIES
SGI-USA Hosts Lecture On Gandhi In Palestine
You and your guests are invited to attend a lecture with Dr. Farshad
Rastegar. Dr. Rastegar is the founder and CEO of Relief International
(RI) which provides innovative emergency relief services worldwide. In
2005, RI implemented the Gandhi Project in Palestinian Territories to
promote the principles of non-violence, economic self-reliance,
solidarity and unity through community screenings of the film Gandhi
throughout Palestine. Dr. Rastegar will discuss the lessons he has
learned from Gandhi and their application to conflicts today. The
lecture will take place on Saturday March 29 at 4:00pm. (Bring Youth
To Reach Your March Youth Attendance Goal!)
In one of the most extraordinary lives ever lived, Gandhi affected
tremendous political change and wielded enormous influence over people
and future historical leaders alike. His teachings on non-violence
elevated him in the eyes of many to the status of a modern-day saint.
"I challenge those who would claim that Gandhi's advocacy of
nonviolent resistance is idealistic to the point of being
unrealistic." says series organizer Ian McIlraith. "The mistrust and
pessimism that characterize ongoing conflicts around the world make
even more urgent Gandhi's brand of optimism and bold declaration of
faith in humanity. As Gandhi stated, 'Non-violence is the greatest
force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest
weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man.'"
The lecture will take place at the SGI-USA Culture of Peace Resource
Center, 606 Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica. All lectures are free and
open to the public.
