World AIDS Day is a world-wide day of remembrance and kicks off December as AIDS Awareness Month.  Desert AIDS Project will be having several exciting speakers, an artwork unveiling (a 3’ x 2’ red AIDS ribbon that will be permanently displayed on the front of our building) sponsored by the City of Palm Springs, an open house with self-guided tours, and a buffet dinner from Savoury’s for everyone attending.  The event is open to the public, as well as D.A.P. clients, but we are asking people to RSVP to this event: 760-323-2118, ext. 257.

Here’s the program for World AIDS Day at D.A.P. on December 1:

4:30 PM

Welcome Remarks by David Brinkman, D.A.P. Executive Director

4:35 PM

Morgan Fairchild, AIDS activist, as featured speaker

4:45 PM

Client speech

4:50 PM

Manny Perez

4:55 PM

Mayor Pougnet dedicates AIDS ribbon sculpture, donated by PS City Council, which will hang directly below D.A.P.’s name on the front of the building.

5:00 PM

Lighting of building for remainder of month, in honor of December as AIDS Awareness Month

After the program, everyone will be invited inside – volunteers will hand out simplified maps of the building, so that anyone wishing to take a self-guided tour may do so. We’ll have signage throughout the building with volunteers stationed at various points, such as the medical and dental clinics, the Client Community Center, the computer lab, etc. These volunteers will have short speeches about the area being visited.

A buffet dinner of “fork food” – subsidized by Savoury’s Catering – will be offered to all attendees. We’re expecting that the event will be wrapped up by 6:00 or shortly thereafter.

We will soon have flyers and posters to promote the event, for anyone that would like to help distribute them. The event is also featured on D.A.P.’s Facebook fan page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=175466138379&ref=mf

Thanks for helping to get the word out – we’d like to have at least 200 people attend this important event.
