Hi all,
For those of you who were not at the (fabulous!) MN+CS conference on Saturday, here's a brief policy update on CS education and a request for action.
Senate - CS Education was not included in the bill that was presented and discussed in the Senate Education Finance Committee meeting two weeks ago.
House - The House is working to put together numbers for the bill but has moved forward a blank appropriations bill for now (i.e., no funding amounts specified). There are internal commitments to CS education among members of the House, however. The bill has now been referred to the Ways & Means Committee for consideration before going to the House floor.
Next Steps - After bills are approved on the House and Senate floors, they will go to a conference committee to resolve differences. We want to make sure that our voice is heard before the conference committee meets.
REQUEST FOR ACTION:
Please submit one or more of these letters to let senators and representatives know how important CS education is for our students to learn. The number of emails they receive matters so please feel free to share among your networks as well.
