Hello there!

Are you a K-12 school teacher in Minnesota? Do you have knowledge of computational thinking (CT)? Are you interested in improving our state’s participation in and opportunities for computer science (CS) experiences so that they are more equitable? If so, I may have a great opportunity for you/them beginning in Fall 2021 - and it's paid! I welcome you to share this opportunity with anyone who comes to mind. If you are interested or want more information, I’d love for you to fill out this short surveyFilling out this survey does NOT obligate you to participate or automatically sign you up to be in the study.

My name is Sarah Barksdale, and I am a graduate student working on my dissertation to complete my PhD at the University of Minnesota. I am seeking interested K-12 educators in Minnesota who have participated in some sort of computer science training or professional development (PD) in the last few years who are working to integrate CT/CS into their curriculum. My research works to better understand how educators approach integrating computer science after they have participated in professional learning experiences. Findings from this study will be helpful to identify problematic areas of current training approaches, notice key supports to guide future resource development, and create more alignment between the professional learning experience and what happens in the classroom.

This research will not start until the upcoming school year (Fall 2021), but I would love to connect now. Based on your responses and interest, a small pool of participants will be invited to participate in the study. All selected research participants will receive at least a $100 gift card for participating in the research study in 2021-2022. If you are interested or want more information, please complete this short survey and I will be in touch with you soonFilling out this survey does NOT obligate you to participate or automatically sign you up to be in the study.

What will it mean to participate in the study during 2021-2022?

  • Completing a short online survey at the beginning of our study (Fall 2021)

  • Allow me to observe you in your classroom (either virtually or face to face depending on COVID-19 restrictions) up to three times when you are teaching a lesson that integrates CT (you choose when)

  • Participate in 2 interviews: one after completing the survey (Fall 2021) and one at the end of the research study

  • Completing a brief reflection after your lesson (either written or verbal)

  • Provide access to curriculum and documents you create to teach your lessons if applicable

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns, and you are welcome to share this in your networks!

Warm wishes,
Sarah Barksdale
