Imagination Toolbox is a fun, creative week of professional development designed to give teachers of all subject areas a chance to imagine ways to incorporate the power of games, modeling, and computation into their classes, or for computer science teachers to integrate other subjects with theirs! It is also a chance to add a new computational tool to your toolbox: StarLogo Nova, a free, online, blocks-based, 3D, agent-based programming environment designed specifically for creating games and simulation with hundreds or even thousands of agents. Imagine animals in a complex ecosystem, molecules in a chemical reaction, villagers in an ancient country, or swarms of invading aliens in sci-fi snowball fight--all of these can be brought to life through code, in a tool only one degree more abstract than Scratch, ideally suited to grades 5-12.
We've developed many ideas and sample activities over the years that you can adapt or extend, or you are welcome to design your own idea from the ground up, supported by insightful peers, talented MIT/Wellesley student coaches, and our experienced staff. Either way, you'll leave the workshop having learned a lot and planned a new activity specifically designed for your students--and you'll probably have a lot of fun, too.
Feel free to contact me directly with any questions. We hope to see you this summer!
