Addressing the Replit issue

Hi there, 

If you use replit and are thinking about using another web based IDE, I’m meeting with the creator of one called Grader Than. He is a CS professor at BC. 

The meeting is Wednesday, Nov 29 at 3 pm. 

If you want to attend, please let me know and I’ll send him your email.  

I met him at MassCUE this year. 

There is a cost and there is also some AI incorporated, but I’m not sure to what extent.

You can learn more about it then if you are interested.  Or I can send an update after too.

Hi Kerri,

Do you know if they have signed the Student Data Privacy Agreement for Massachusetts?  Also, I just looked at their site and it looks like that they only do Java and Python.  There are some of us who were also using Replit for HTML/CSS/JavaScript.

I cannot attend that date, but would appreciate if someone was able to provide a summary for those who couldn't.

Hello!

Oh I did not check for web design, you are correct.  This might be a catalyst for me learning how to create websites with other languages.:)

And I do have privacy as a question for our meeting.  I will show him that part and hopefully get them to sign if they haven't already.

You might want to look into Coding Rooms. I talked to one of the developers at one point and, at that time, they did as much as replit but more.

Replit is not going to support education any longer.  There was a letter that went out - I can try to find it.  They said whoever is using Teams right now can stay for now but no new users and not a definite on the current users.  While you could use replit without teams, there is AI, there could be a cost, and not sure if they will be protecting data privacy, etc.

I also spoke with Grader Than at MassCue. He told me yesterday that Grader Than is now part of the Student Data Privacy Consortium but I'm not seeing them on the list. Does anyone know how to get them to appear on the SPDA list?

I reached out to Harris Williams (Founder/CEO of GraderThan) after seeing a couple of questions on here.

I have used the tool in classes and would try it again - Harris was happy to support me in most anything I could come up with (C, Python, Web Dev). 

Me: Do you have a signed Student Data Privacy Agreement for Massachusetts?
Harris A: We are a Student Data Privacy Consortium member, but we have not signed a Student Data Privacy Agreement with any specific Massachusetts school yet. 

Me:Do you support other languages- like for web development for example?

Harris:We support all programming languages. We'll be updating our website to reflect this shortly.
