This fall, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing will be held in Minneapolis, MN - very close for many of us!  There are 40 scholarships available to high school women interested in tech to attend the conference.  It is an excellent conference, bringing together 3,000+ women in technology including academia and industry.  This will be an inspiring experience for the girls selected to attend. CSS regularly has about 10 of our students attend and many report this as one of the most influential experiences in choosing to pursue technology careers. I encourage you to have women in your classes apply for the scholarship.  If you (or they) have any questions about the conference, please don't hesitate to contact me.

If you are not in Minnesota, there are regional Women in Computing events that might be held near you.  More info on these is at: http://www.ghregionalconsortium.org/index.cfm

Thanks,
Jen

Subject: ***Please Pass the Word ASAP to High School Female Students Interested in Tech***

Dear Education Colleague:  This summer, 40 area high school young women will be selected by a review committee of professional women in IT to attend an international technology conference being held at the Minneapolis Convention Center, October 2-5, 2013.

WE NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP to inform NEXT school year's 10-12th grade students to make application NOW through June 30, 2013 to attend this prestigious event.  See attached flier for event information.

Over 4000 women in technology will be attending the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing event presented by the Anita Borg Institute.  For more information: visit http://gracehopper.org/2013/conference/grace-hopper-genconnext-program/.  This is the first year a high school track is being offered to inspire and support young women who have shown some interest in technology, computers and STEM -  to network, increase their skills, and learn more about amazing technology career opportunities.  The participating students will be chaperoned and mentored by professional women from area technology businesses and organizations.

Selected students will be able to attend at the low cost of $75.  Registration, including parent permission will occur in early August. The remaining balance of conference costs ($725 in value) will be paid by sponsors.  Selection criteria includes:
*       Parent provides participation consent and agrees to transport student to/from event each day the student attends
*       Student response to online application questions demonstrates a genuine interest in technology, computing and STEM learning
*       Student is required to be in good academic standing in a Minnesota public, private, charter, online or home-school education setting
*       30% of the selected participants will be from underserved populations such as students of color and students from lower socioeconomic households

PLEASE HELP PASS THE WORD IMMEDIATELY!  For more information about the application and selection process, please contact project partner Advance IT Minnesota, www.advanceITMN.org.   Contact Director of Collaborative Programs and Outreach Russell....@metrostate.edu or call 651.253.9438.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
