Richard finished up with the major fleet business that needed addressing,
and spotted that he had an incoming message from General Liconie. It was a
recorded message stating that Richard could call him at any time to discuss
things. So Richard instructed the computer to open a channel to General
Liconie at Starfleet HQ.
John was half way out the door to the meeting with the council subcommittee
when he hear the beep from his terminal. He chewed his lip and looked back
then tugged down the the tunic of his uniform, "Liconie to Drayson, I'm
going to be delayed a bit longer," he called, such was the nature of the
job, especially when the resource redirect had pissed off officers calling
in.
He sat down at his desk and took a breath then hit the accept button and
gave a smile, "General, if your calling to threaten to put a boot up my ass
about the resources your number fifteen thousand and it my be a bit tight in
there before you get to it," he greeted with a smirk.
"So its true then, eh?" Richard replied. "Don't worry, I don't kick men when
they're down."
"Unfortunately," Razor replied then took a breath, "I'm going to meet with
them and offer some of my....diplomacy," he added, his expression not
changing, "apparently the Federation Naval Patrol needs the resources more
then we do, to quote the speaker 'Starfleet has become a bloated military
using the threat of war to drain the Federation and shirk its responsibility
to explore rather then fight and are now putting the security and foundation
of the Federation at risk,' so, in essence, we're a bunch of war mongers."
"The Federation Naval Patrol!" Richard exclaimed. "That ramshackle force is
made up of useless old Starfleet people who couldn't make it in the proper
service. Their starships are over 100 years old! A single starship can do
more than the whole FNP together!"
"Hence why they are giving the resources, they say," Liconie replied with a sigh, "they also forgot the fact that Starfleet shuttles the FNP to the loonies and various planets. I'm trying to deal with it, but, Admiral Drayson banned me from stunning them all," he replied, looking serious and leaving it to Sharpe to decide if he was or not, "I'm still not sure who cooked this up."
“I’m convinced it’s a political ploy. The Presidential elections are coming up, aren’t they?” Sharpe said. “Someone trying to win the peaceful existence lobby?”
The General nodded, "I think that along with my recent restructure of Starfleet. They probably saw an opportunity and jumped on it thinking they could get away with it with my promise for cooperation and going back to exploration," he replied and took a deep breath, "apparently they aren't the only ones, pirate and some terrorist organizations have stepped up, I think they mistook the stand down for blood in the water."
"Oh, that's just what we need." Sharpe said. "The Dominion are a bit antsy as well. We've had a number of reports of terrorist activity against Federation assets in the Gamma Quadrant. Some beef about us encroaching on their territory, and their birth right. Last thing we need is to be seen to be weakening our resolve."
"Not to try and prove I'm a war monger, but, it sounds like we need to run an op like UCIP did against the Borg when they kept being a pain in the ass, Operation Shadow I think it was," he said, trying to remember back to his Academy history class.
"We'd need forces for that." Sharpe said. "Something I'm not prepared to commit without the assurance that any losses would be replaced."
"Then you need to shut down Gamma Quadrant ops and come home then," John replied matter of factley, "not to be to blunt, Richard, but, we don't really choose where our forces get committed and to start holding forces back will start making the blood in the water theory stronger," he added, "I get what your saying, I do, but....."=
"John, we're over committed. Our lines are so thin, I don't like to think." Sharpe said. "We're both old MACO's, we know the importance of holding back our reserve to see where the big push is going to come. With the limited assets we have, it'd be madness to deploy everything and hope for the best."
"Trust me I know, however, I can't ignore threats either," John replied then put up a hand before Sharpe replied, "this is a merry go round argument, I've had it a few times. I am reassigning the twenty second Task Force to Alpha Fleet, I cut the orders earlier today, they're in transit to communications, but, that's all I can spare to help. I know you need them," he added honestly.
Richard nodded. "I'll do the best I can with what I have. But with the problems in the Gamma Quadrant, and this mysterious planetary explosion in the Alpha Quadrant, I'm getting concerned we just don't have enough. I know its not your fault, but bitching goes up the CoC." He grinned at that.
"And shit rolls back down," Razor replied with a joking smile, "I'm slating the thirty or so remaining ships and birds for delivery to Alpha Fleet, but, be aware, the yards with those ships are Utopia and Eden so it will be a bit. If you can get Zetari yards to help that may get you those ships faster, but, we don't have the personnel to send to Zetari so they'd have to rely on their own," he explained, "if you want to go that way I'll have Admiral DeMarco call and liase the R and D part with you," he added, knowing it'd take a few more ships for transport, but, he'd already pulled a few from mothballs as back up.
“I’ll talk to Zetari, and we’ll go from there.” Sharpe said. “I also have a very odd request.”
"What request is that?" Liconie asked cautiously and leaned forward, folding his hands on his desk.
"I need all material relating to the Genesis Device to be unlocked." Sharpe said. "We have an incident brewing in the Kremyn system, that could be the result of someone trying to play with a Genesis type weapon. As we know, the Klingon's had their information on the Genesis Device stolen a few months back."
Razor raised an eye brow, "No, I didn't know that......" he replied with a sigh and made a mental note to have Drayson investigate, "I'll authorize unlock to you only, and if it's needed by anyone not on station there it will need to be sent by courier, not over the nets or comms and the courier will need to reseal the file. I don't need to stress to you the reason behind this, it's to dangerous to risk the information grabbed out of subspace."
"I'm well aware of the implications." Sharpe said, gravely.
Liconie nodded and hit a button on his terminal, sending Starbase 514 authorization for Sharpes eyes only, "authorization sent," he said as the Starbases computer beeped behind Sharpe.
"Thank you, John." He said. "I'll let you know what develops out here."
"Please do, it's not just your ass since my signature is on that," John replied, "keep DeMarco in loop on this as well, I've already overstepped a little by not including R and D in the unlock of their classified files," he added with a slight nod.
“I think considering the situation, the oversight will be forgiven.” Sharpe said. “Especially if the Romulan’s have the Genesis Device.”
"Anything else you want to tell me.....?" he asked with a sigh, since the Klingons and Romulans both have a strong presence Diplomatically with Beta Fleets Command on Versailles it was becoming worrisome neither the delegates nor the Starfleet officers there picked it up, or even intel, "fracking cut backs," he growled to himself.
"I'm not sure it’s the Romulan Government, but rather a splinter group. Especially if they're operating in the Alpha Quadrant rather than their own home territory." Sharpe said.
"Splinter group or not intel at a minimum should have been on the ball there after a Romulan splinter group wiped a few thousand from the face of Vulcan with some kind of super tech," Liconie replied with a sigh then rubbed his face, "alright, I need to go remove some broom handles from the subcommittee members, keep updated as much as you can."
"I'll do my best, as always, John." Richard said.
"Alright then, Command out," Liconie finished with a nod and let the comm close before turning toward the bay window behind him and trying to relax the pulsing behind his eyes, the subcommittee was going to be the downfall of the Federation not Starfleet t the rate things wet going.
