"Good evening, Ambassador," Jack offered graciously as he entered the elder statesman's office.

"I must stress the displeasure that my government has regarding this incursion into sovereign territory without warning," the Ambassador replied angrily, gesturing flippantly at the chair opposite his desk.

Drayson took the offered seat, noting the annoyance evident in the man's voice. "I understand, your Excellency, however I'm sure you're aware that the first rescue attempt became widely known prior to execution, and resulted in significant casualties for Starfleet. The Carrie government had requested Starfleet's assistance, and in this case it was our firm view that we could not discuss the impending action for operational security reasons."

"I understand all that, Admiral. I said I was expressing my government's displeasure, not my own," the Ambassador replied. "I just had to say it to get it out of the way. I feel like an idiot bringing you in this late at night."

"That's okay, sir, I was up anyway, monitoring the operation from the situation room," Drayson replied, stifling a yawn. "Should we expect much heat from your government?"

"No, they'll release a statement complaining about not being informed, but it'll just be for show," the Ambassador explained, sipping a cup of tea. "Part of saving face for not being able to handle this ourselves."

"I'm getting queries from the Federation Council regarding a peacekeeping force on the ground on Carrie Eight. How amenable would your government be to that?" Drayson enquired.

The Ambassador thought that through for a moment, "The opposition parties will scream blue murder, but I expect we shall be fine for that to occur. If you give me a day, I may be able to convince the Prime Minister to request it."

Jack stood, "Excellent, that'll save my own skin for a while. I'll await your instructions."

"Get some sleep, Jack," the Ambassador chided as Drayson left the room.
