=/\= Ready Room - USS Archer - D =/\=
Korath sat in the ready room and starred at a PADD from Commander Sahal requesting a month off from active duty in order to observe a betazoid cultural event. However inconvenient the timing was, Korath could not see a reason why he could not allow it. She would at least be aboard ship should she be needed. That would leave him in need is an interim Xo.
"Commander Caldwell could you see me in my ready room?" Korath said tapping his comm badge.
Caldwell was on deck 6, taking part in a standard security patrol, when he heard the request. His tea was still looking for mirror universe counterparts, and the efforts to find the one known intruder had been something less than successful.
Matt tapped his combadge: "I'm on my way." He left a junior officer in charge of the detail before taking a turbolift to the bridge, arriving relatively quickly at the ready room. To signal his arrival, he pressed the chime.
"Enter!" The Klingon called out as the chime sounded. The light was subdued in the small stark barely furnished room. All that exsisted in the room was a desk with two modest chairs opposite a chair that looked like a throne that was presently occupied. the walls adorned with various weapons from several cultures from across the galaxy. in the corner, much to the opposite of the rest of the room was a small sofa that looked more like it was a low hung shelf than a comfortable sitting area. Korath swung toward the doors as they opened. "Ah Commander, thank you for coming so promptly. Have a seat." he said motioning to one of the chairs. "Can I get you anything?" he asked by way of being polite.
Caldwell nodded, and walked to the chair on his right. He could not help but look at all the items adorning hte Captain's ready room bulkheads and he wondered why he hadn't noticed the ornate details before. He considered the Klingon's question and thought for a moment: "Bloodwine" He offered a slight smirk, wondering how the man would react.
Korath starred at the commander for a moment trying to determine if the man was mocking him or simply intending it as a playful joke. "Unless you took an alcohol inhibitor before walking in here or are part klingon, you would likely be too drunk to finish your shift." the Klingon smirked. "However if you are still serious about the bloodwine, i have several barrels in the captains mess. I am quite sure I can arrange a bottle." He leaned forward on the desk.
"then that is not blood wine." Korath smirked. "though we all cant be perfect." He joked,, knowing he himself was far from that.
"I asked you here, because Commander Sahal has requested some personal time, Not surprising since she has taken very little time off in the last two years." He paused. "That leaves this ship with a place to fill."
Matt nodded: "So I assume Starfleet will be sending us a temporary executive officer, until she returns?" He asked. Inside he groaned. The ship did not need a new face at the moment. It would be yet another way a mirror-universe imposter could infiltrate the Archer.
"No, given our position in the Delta Quadrant; logistics are somewhat difficult. I am forced to look within the crew for the time being. I would like you to consider the post until Commander Sahal is able to take up her duties again."
Caldwell raised an eyebrow. The thought of command never really entered his mind. There was a saying about security officers that those with yellow collars never became admirals, and he was rather content being a department head. Nevertheless, the opportunity intrigued him.
"I am certainly interested in the offer. Who would run the security department in the interim?" He asked.
"Good. " Korath replied, "As for security, I believe I will leave the assignement of a temporary head to you. You know more of your people than anyone."
Mark nodded: “Yes, sir. I will see to it that the department is lead by a competent individual for the duration of my reassignment.” His mind started sorting through and ranking the various candidates.
"Very good. " Korath nodded. "I am certain you have questions, so we will get to those before we get to the briefing on the current mission specifics."
Mark shrugged: "I do not have many questions, to be honest sir, altthough I am curious as to why you chose me for this assignment. Surely the Archer has other more experienced officers in bridge operations."
"I need someone that is familiar with security protocols and what it takes to identify and deal with threats and how to get results." Korath said simply. "For the time being I need you to co ordinate with the Enterprise XO and our department heads while they work alongside with their counter parts on Enterprise.
"Understood. I will get in contact with the XO on the Enterprise to facilitate that cooperation at once. Permission to return to my office, to make arrangements for my reassignment?"
"Granted." Korath nodded.
