I'm using this one page to test changes to my site layout.

The first problem is that all attempts to add some margin beneath the "by Keith Purtell ... etc" have failed. It may have something to do with the inline portion of that code.

Also, the first sentence after my inserted image is changing to serif for some reason. Can't figure out why.

yo Keith,

the inline margin you inserted lacks 'px' after '40'

and please try to fix this:

- don't put DIVs inside Paragraphs - you should do it the other way
round - this is probably the reason why the browser gets crazy and
spits stuff like that

but if you want to go this way, just put <p> right before "With dark
themes and sophisticated finger-picking,"

OK, the advice you all gave was right. I have one lingering issue. The div I'm using to create space between the author credit and the beginning of the article still seems like a cheat. Isn't there any way I can add that space to the text string that has the author credit and creation date?

Hi Keith

You could apply a class that applies margin-top to the paragraph tag directly below it and then lose the DIV

Cheers,

I'm not trying to make the break bigger. It just seems to me that using a blank div is not a very professional way to add space. For example, on the top headline and the one below it, the space below is achieved using the margin property. Michael has a good suggestion. I'm still curious why I couldn't get margin to work on the line that shows the author name and date-written info.

Hey Keith,

The element has to be set to display:block before you can add top/bottom
margin/padding since inline elements only use line-height to determine
how tall they should be.
