Job Announcement for position of Senior Programme Officer (Agriculture) / Programme Officer (Agriculture) at Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell, Ahmedabad

Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell (CSPC) is a joint initiative of Tata Trust (TT), Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) and Ambuja Cement Foundation. CSPC has a mandate to work on issues addressing livelihood enhancement of communities affected by increasing salinity ingress in the coastal areas. Developing itself as a knowledge center on various aspects of coastal salinity including efficient water management, improved agriculture, addressing drinking water security and safe sanitation, the CSPC collaborates with several government and non-government organizations to pilot / implement projects, impart capacity building training inputs, document best practices for larger information sharing & dissemination and networks with different institutions to host & organize events and carry out impact assessment and research studies on salinity projects. Currently, CSPC is working with more than 15 non-government organisations and developed partnership with many government agencies, research and academic institutions. CSPC’s outreach is in more than 500 villages across thirteen coastal districts of Gujarat and has been expanding its interventions.

CSPC is looking for a suitable professional to be part of the agriculture team, to coordinate and manage the Agriculture portfolio of CSPC. The candidate should have relevant experience in: 
• Core technical competencies of the agriculture sector, preferably in saline conditions; (
• Demonstration and promotion of various crops, horticulture crops, vegetables, fodder etc. according to the recommended Package of Practices (POP) and Integrated Pest Management / Integrated Disease Management; 
• Identification of pest, diseases, nutritional deficiency etc. and provide technical advice to farmers/ partner organisations for remedial or curative measures; 
• Monitoring of field demonstrations and technical analysis of the same; 
• Capacity building of farmers on various aspects related to land remediation, improved agriculture practices, water management, institutional building through on-farm and off-farm trainings etc.; 
• Project monitoring and evaluation, report writing, impact assessment, baseline and end line data collection, monitoring mechanism etc.;
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical and writing skills and ability to lead as well as work as a member of a team; 
• Development of Information Education and communication (IEC) material for various crops in term of brochures, display material etc.; 
• Coordination and networking with multi stake holders such as Non-Government organisations, Government departments, Institutes and other resource agencies; and 
• Organizing seminars and workshops for implementation partners, conducting meetings, monitor day-to-day project activities, reporting and documentation.

The incumbent should be an innovative thinker, self-initiative, idea incubator and have holistic approach in understanding the community-based approaches in a development environment. The candidates should:
• possess a Bachelor degree in Agriculture / Master’s degree in Agriculture / Entomology / Agronomy and related discipline; 
• have working experience of minimum 5 to 8 years in agriculture sector; 
• having in-depth knowledge on IPM of Cotton / Groundnut / Wheat / vegetables / Pulses / horticulture crop etc.; 
• having good command over spoken and written English and Gujarati language and possess excellent computer skills; 
• having the ability to innovate future strategies, develop monitoring mechanism, networking among various project stakeholders including village community and deliver results and 
• be willing to undertake extensi

CSPC has a mandate to work on issues addressing livelihood enhancement of communities affected by increasing salinity ingress in the coastal areas. Developing itself as a knowledge center on various aspects of coastal salinity including efficient water management, improved agriculture, addressing drinking water security and safe sanitation, the CSPC collaborates with several government and non-government organizations to pilot / implement projects, impart capacity building training inputs, document best practices for larger information sharing & dissemination and networks with different institutions to host & organize events and carry out impact assessment and research studies on salinity projects. Currently, CSPC is working with more than 15 Implementing Support Agencies (ISA) and developed partnership with many government agencies, research and academic institutions. CSPC’s outreach is in more than 400 villages across nine coastal districts of Gujarat and has been expanding its interventions to 550 villages.
CSPC is looking for a suitable professional to be part of the agriculture team at Ahmedabad or at the project location of the ISA and would be undertaking the capacity building of farmers’ institutions to form a self-sustainable registered organisation and will also be supporting them in establishing the linkages with market. S/he will execute the plans under Kharash Vistarotthan Yojana initiative of Tata Trust & CSPC; and lead the field level team in managing the market linkage initiatives. S/he would broadly be performing the following functions:

1. Undertake the capacity building field team of ISA as well as farmers of farmers institution (FI)
2. Plan strategy for FI and execute it to make FI self-sustainable
3. Identifying the opportunities for FI, marketing and value addition
4. Plan the marketing interventions
5. To get the execution and operational of the marketing plans in coordination with FI and ISA
6. Guide ISA and undertake market linkages 
7. Undertake regularly monitoring of the work and take necessary action as and when required
8. Undertake training and exposure visit of the project staff and beneficiaries 
9. Trouble shooting and any other work as per the requirement

The incumbent should be an innovative thinker, self-initiative, idea incubator and have holistic approach in understanding the community-based approaches in a development environment. The eligible candidate should possess the following credentials:

• Masters / Bachelors degree with minimum of 3 years of experience of which at least 2 years should be in Institution building / market linkages for farm or non-farm produce
• Have the zeal to excel, the ability to innovate future strategies, develop monitoring mechanism, networking among various project stakeholders including village community and deliver results, in a challenging environment
• Be willing to undertake extensive travel to coastal areas across Gujarat 
• Excellent computer skills with good knowledge of MS office package
• Good command over spoken and written English and Hindi
• Knowledge of Gujarati would be preferable

The remuneration shall commensurate with the applicants’ ability and experience. Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae, along with a write up, one page note on the challenges during formation of farmer intuition and an another page on challenges faced by farmers in context of marketing of agriculture produce and what interventions are needed to address them.
