Call for Research Papers
TRAVEL WRITING AND SOUTH EAST ASIA
I am glad to inform you that I am going to edit an anthology on Travel Writing and South East Asia. Once looked down as a sub-literary genre, travel writing has emerged in recent times as a focus for intensive research across a whole range of disciplines. Much interest has been generated in its history, formal characteristics, and problems of representation, and for what it can be made to say about a whole range of themes such as representation of identity and difference. Travel writing has its special importance in the case of South East Asia because it reflected the interactions of the colonial powers with the natives. Of course, travel and the representation of difference have never been the sole prerogative of the colonials only, and there is a substantial body of travel writings by the natives. Travel writing has also been a rich resource for those studying issues of gender and power; and as mentioned earlier colonialism and post-colonialism.
